Cargo ship carrying 4,000 luxury expensive cars like Porsches, Lamborghinis, and Bentleys sinks in Atlantic Ocean, loss of more than 11 hundred crores
On 16 February, a fire broke out on the ship, which was going from Germany to the USA, after which the ship full of vehicles sank in the sea. The sinking of this burning ship has caused a loss of more than 1100 crores.
The Felicity Ace (the name of the cargo ship) was carrying both electric and non-electric vehicles.
Luxury vehicles like Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini were also loaded in the ship which caught fire on 16 February. According to a company insider, about 4,000 Volkswagen Group cars were being taken to the USA in the ship that sank.
The captain of the ship says that the fire started when the lithium battery of an EV caught fire. The Navy said in its statement that after the fire in the ship, all 22 crew members aboard the ship have been rescued by the Portuguese Navy and Air Force and taken to a safe hotel. At the same time, the ship has been left to swim alone in the sea without any crew member.
Such incidents have happened before. This is not the first time that Volkswagen's cars have been submerged in the ocean. Earlier in 2019, Grande America caught fire. In that incident also 2,000 luxury cars like Audi, Porsche were submerged in water with this ship.
According to The Wall Street Journal, MOL Ship Management Singapore said on Friday that the ship was engulfed in smoke due to the fire, which was sinking in the ocean while a crew member was being rescued.
