Johnson Baby Powder Causes Cancer

The pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson (J&J)  will suspend the sale of baby powder worldwide from 2023, two years after doing so in the US and Canada, hounded by thousands of complaints about the safety of the product. The product will also cease to be marketed in Argentina.

The company said it made the "business decision" to substitute cornstarch for talc in this children's product after receiving some 38,000 lawsuits linking long-term use to cancer, though it continued to deny that's the cause.

At the end of 2018, information appeared indicating that J&J had known for decades that its talcum powder contained asbestos, a mineral with composition and characteristics similar to those of asbestos and with harmful effects on health.

Since then, J&J has faced thousands of lawsuits accusing the manufacturer of having contributed to the development of ovarian cancer in consumers, an extreme that the company denies and that each year has caused it to spend millions of dollars in litigation.

In June of last year, the Supreme Court of the United States refused to study an appeal filed by the pharmaceutical company and thus confirmed a sentence to pay 2,100 million dollars in damages for the sale of talc manufactured with products carcinogenic.

The company had already received another resounding conviction in 2018 when a jury in the State of Missouri ordered it to pay 4.7 billion dollars to 22 women who claimed that it caused ovarian cancer. An appeals court reduced that amount two years later but still said the company had "knowingly sold asbestos-containing products to consumers. "

The company is also facing other legal problems in the US and agreed earlier this year to pay millions of dollars to several states, along with other large drug distributors, for their responsibility in the opioid crisis.

Johnson & Johnson Statement:
"Our position on the safety of our cosmetic talc remains unchanged. We strongly support the decades of scientific analysis by medical experts around the world that confirm that Johnson's Baby Talcum Powder is safe, contains no asbestos, and does not cause cancer," declared the firm this Friday in a statement.

“As part of a global product portfolio review, we have made the business decision to move to a range of baby powder based solely on cornstarch. As a result of this transition, Johnson's baby powder will no longer be manufactured internationally in 2023," the company said.

Choose A UV Protection Umbrella

In 2016 alone, there were more than 82,000 cases of melanoma, a type of skin cancer, in the United States . In Spain , there are 4,000 new cases of melanoma per year, and 74,000 cases of other types of skin cancer. This is a disease that can be prevented with small changes in behavior, such as using umbrellas for the sun or other elements.

The first thing you should know is that rain umbrellas do not protect you from the sun, but instead have UV or UVA protection filters. This is because UV or UVA protection umbrellas have fabrics specially designed to work as a filter against the sun's rays. The other umbrellas do not, and their fabrics allow the passage of ultraviolet radiation.

And what if you use a giant umbrella ? In this case size does not matter. You could carry a garden umbrella on your head, but if it doesn't have UV or UVA protection, it really won't help you take care of your skin. Using an umbrella for the sun that prevents skin problems is not just going to the store and buying an ordinary hand umbrella .

Umbrellas with protection can block between 77% and 99% of ultraviolet rays, according to a studycarried out by JAMA Dermatol in 2013. This means that an umbrella designed with all the technology to protect you from the sun is really effective.

In addition to using umbrellas for the sun , we give you some recommendations so you can avoid skin problems and improve your health and appearance.

➡Sunscreen
Sunscreens above 15 SPF can protect you from reflective radiation. Also, they are effective against direct radiation, but you should look for the highest levels of SPF, and if the exposure is prolonged you will have to apply the product every two hours.

➡hats and caps
In the market you will find a wide variety of hats and sun caps that you can use with your umbrella. However, these are also designed to protect you from direct radiation, but will not work for reflective radiation. This is a complementary measure to ensure 100% protection against direct lightning.

➡Clothes
Wearing long-sleeved clothing can be an effective measure, but it must be made with the right filters. Some clothes let the rays through and don't help you block the radiation. That is why you should buy thick clothes, without holes, regardless of whether the fabric is vaporous. This is one of the customs of residents in desert areas where you will always see long-sleeved dresses.

➡Glasses
There is a wide range of dark glasses that you can buy. But first you must ensure that they have a UV or UVA filter, because being dark does not mean that they protect you from the sun. One possibility is to buy a frame of your choice and have dark lenses made with high-quality UV or UVA filters so that your eyes have a good shield against the sun.

With all these measures you will be guaranteeing greater protection if you must expose yourself to the sun for a long time. And now you know that using an umbrella for the sun is an effective way to take care of your skin, so look for a good umbrella with UV or UVA protection, choose the one you like the most and enjoy sunny days without fear.

Heatwave Is Expected To Shake All-time Records

South America has the strong heat wave that puts several countries in the region on alert.

A strong heat wave is also affecting Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. One of the hottest places on Earth is Argentina.

Avoid exposing yourself to the sun during "peak hours" between 11:00 and 18:00.

Use sun hats, carry an umbrella, wear sunglasses and light clothing as protection elements. Use sunscreen with at least 20 SPF (Sun Protection Factor). For children, 60 FPS protection is indicated.

Drink plenty of water, wear light-colored clothing, stay out of the sun, eat lightly and reduce physical activity.

Exposure to the sun can cause severe damage to health, mainly to children, the elderly and pregnant women.

It is also advised to maintain special precaution with children who are under 6 years of age, people over 65 years of age, those who perform tasks outdoors and those affected by diabetes, hypertension, obesity, alcoholism or in a condition of disability. They should avoid sun exposure and, if possible, stay in air-conditioned environments.

In case of any symptoms related to heat stroke, urgent medical attention should be requested and, while waiting, stay in a cool, shady place, take a shower or cool off with cold, wet cloths on the head, neck, armpits, and groin area.

Exposure to the sun affect our pets too. Your dog and your cat can also burn in the sun, especially those with white, short or fine hair. If they are exposed to the sun for a long time, they can develop skin problems , such as solar dermatitis or even get skin cancer. Let's keep our pets in cool places no need to expose them to the sun.
