Missiles Hit Near U.S Embassy In Iraqi

The cowardly attack was carried out with "twelve ballistic missiles" fired at the U.S Embassy of Iraq in the town of Erbil.

Previously, the Governor of Kurdistan, indicated that it was not clear if the missiles were aimed at the U.S Embassy or at the airport, where the U.S. troops were stationed.

The News outlet also stated that no Americans were hurt and there was no damage to U.S government facilities in Erbil.

Local television whose studios are near the new U.S Embassy headquarters, posted images of its damaged offices on social media, with parts of the roof collapsed and glass broken.

The Ministry of Health assured that there were no casualties from the attack, while the airport indicated that it had suffered no damage and flights had not been disrupted. "We condemn this terrorist attack launched against various sectors of Erbil, we call on the inhabitants to remain calm," Kurdistan Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani said in a statement.

An Iranian state TV correspondent said the missiles were aimed at “secret Israeli bases” but did not give further information.

Iraq suffers frequent attacks with rockets or armed drones, mainly against U.S interests and troops from the international anti-jihadist coalition, which Washington attributes to pro-Iranian Iraqi factions. However, the last attack in Erbil was in September 2021 when armed drones fired on the Airport.
