Father Allegedly Drove Family in Tesla Off Cliff on Purpose

The authorities detained Dharmesh A. Patel, who was driving the car in which his wife and two children were traveling; he faces charges of attempted murder and child molestation.

The California authorities say he intentionally drove over the cliff with his wife, son, and daughter inside his Tesla. The victims were airlifted with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

In the past, some Tesla cars in the United States have been involved in fatal accidents when Autopilot, the suite of driving assistance features that automates processes such as parking, was activated.

The incident occurred Monday when authorities received an alert that a car with four people inside had gone off a cliff on the 1 Freeway, 15 miles south of San Francisco.

Rescuers descended almost 80 meters down the cliff to rescue two children, ages seven and four, with severe injuries, a woman and a man, both 41, and all four were taken to a nearby hospital.

The area in which the serious event happened is known as "devil's side" due to the fatal accidents that usually happen there and the fact that the victims of the event survived was classified as "a miracle" by The authorities.

The California Highway Patrol also announced that, once Patel heals from his injuries at the hospital, he will be admitted to the San Mateo County Jail, and that the investigation is still open, so they urged witnesses to the event to give their testimonials.
